The Journey of Dreams
“I want to be a designer,
because I see my father builds houses. When I see how the beautiful houses are
, I want to try to design my own. That’s why I want to be an architect, but if
I can’t be an architect, then I will be a model. The reason is that at school, we do a lot of dance performances.”
This basis of this documentary is an activity that took place as part of the Rot Xang project. Rot Xang is a mobile playroom that visits 4 construction workers sites around Chiang Mai, bringing toys, sports gear, story books and art materials for children to come and play with. In this instance, children took part in an art activity during which they designed and created the outfit of their dream profession. Interviews of children and youth, including one student from 2002, on their hopes and dreams complete the documentary.
The Journey of dreams raises awareness about current Thai migrant labour policy that restrict migrant workers to manual labour. The documentary is being produced in Thai, Burmese and English.
(To be launched in November 2011)
